Columbus once ...

Columbus is an old axe brand of the company Hmezad Jeklo which is over 100 years old. At the time that they were created, these axes were mainly used for household chores and artisanal work and they were famous for their high quality.

The boom of forestry in the second half of the 19th century brought about some novelties for the axe. Axes were no longer intended for household chores and artisanal work but were mainly used in forestry, which required the development of new types of axes and caused the wide-spread production of this product.

Mass production is connected with the desire for reducing production costs, often at the expense of lower quality. Such ax production brought about a more general availability of this product due to its lower price. In order to hide deficiencies, various "cosmetic fixes" were used, such as the use of additional grinding and painting, resulting in the increase in environmentally unfriendly solvents, thinners, paints, grinding materials, etc.

The progress in forestry in the second half of the 20th century was caused by the development of modern technology (power saw and other power tools). For this reason, the axe is returning into the home environment and is used for every-day household chores and artisanal tasks.

Columbus, the return to the tradition of our ancestors!

The story of Columbus still continues today ...
